Many hotels bill themselves as dog friendly. That usually means you’re allowed to bring your pooch into specific rooms, most often for a fee—and that’s typically where the friendliness ends. But some places go above and beyond, providing dog beds and bowls and offering perks like pets-welcome happy hours, dog walking, and maps to dog-friendly parks, trails, or beaches. Here are some of the best.  

Calistoga Ranch

Napa Valley, California

At the 157-acre, upscale , you’ll be treated to backyard trail access, a spa, swimming pool, and your own private lodge. Your dog won’t be roughing it either. The resort has a bacon scavenger hunt through the on-site vineyard and bone broth mutt-tinis, and your furry pal will get treats, a dog bed, and water bowl. If you can’t bring your own pup, there’s always Cal, the hotel’s resident golden retriever, who hangs out on the grounds. From $695.

Viceroy Snowmass

Snowmass, Colorado

, which underwent a $4 million renovation in 2017, has everything you’d expect from an high-end, dog-friendly hotel: in-room dog beds, leashes, water bowls, and a concierge who can ring up local dog walkers while you’re out skiing Aspen’s four mountains. You can even order doggy treats through room service. But it’s the hotel’s location at the base of the Snowmass ski resort that really sets it apart. Dogs can run right out the door to play on the snow- or grass-covered slopes, depending on the season. From $645, plus a $50 pet cleaning fee.

The Paw House Inn

Killington, Vermont

Most hotels charge you an extra fee if you bring your pet, but at the , they add $10 to your bill if you »å´Ç²Ô’t bring a dog. All eight rooms and two cottages allow pets and come with custom-built dog beds. There are miles of pet-friendly trails nearby for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. There’s also a free-of-charge dog-care facility on site, where the staff will play with and walk your fuzzy friend while you’re out skiing nearby Killington Mountain. Dogs are welcome at the complimentary breakfast in the main lodge, and there’s an off-leash dog park in the backyard. From $185.

Justin Trails Resort

Sparta, Wisconsin

Located on a 200-acre organic farm,  welcomes dogs in all of its rooms and cottages for a modest $35 nightly fee. Or camp for $30 a night and your dog stays free. There’s a fenced-in dog park out back and a Siberian husky named Heidi who lives on the property. You’ll find two disc golf courses and miles of hiking and cross-country ski trails on site, and the 32-mile rail-to-trail Elroy-Sparta State Bike Trail is just minutes away. From $119.

Hotel Saint Cecilia

Austin, Texas

Hotelier Liz Lambert is a big animal lover, so her  is especially accommodating. Tell them in advance that you’re bringing your pooch and you’ll have a dog bed, food and water bowls, a ball for playing fetch on the lawn, and pickup bags waiting in your room. Plus, the concierge can help arrange dog-walking or dog-sitting duties. Humans get loaner cruiser bikes and guitars, and your room comes with a record player and access to a library of vintage LPs. The Resort at Paws Up

Greenough, Montana

At this  35 minutes west of Missoula, you’ll stay in a lavish canvas tent or one-to-five-bedroom cabin that’s entirely your own.
