With 4,270 acres of skiable terrain,  is Canada’s second-largest ski area. And while size matters, it’s just one of the reasons it’s such a great, and family-friendly, resort. It’s easy to get to, rarely—if ever—has lift lines, and is a breeze to get around. Beginner, intermediate, and advanced terrain is evenly distributed around each of the resort’s three peaks, and its ski-through village means no driving necessary: once you park your car or get out of the shuttle, you can go from ski boots to slippers all week long.

It’s Closer Than You Think

Situated in the interior of British Columbia, Sun Peaks is a 45-minute drive from Kamloops, which has direct flights from Vancouver and Calgary. And for those who live in the Northwest, it’s an easy 5.5-hour drive from Seattle. Pro tip: Per Canadian road rules, you’ll need either winter tires or chains, so be sure to plan accordingly.

You Can Walk—or Ski—Everywhere

Seriously. Once you arrive, there’s no need to get back in a car or shuttle until you leave. The resort’s Euro-inspired village is 100 percent walkable and skiable, meaning the locals can ski right up to the town’s health center and school. Everything is so centrally located that you can ski right up to, well, practically everything, from restaurants and bars to shops and your slopeside condo. How cool is that? Pretty cool indeed says Brandi Schier, publisher of the town’s local paper. “Strolling the snowy and twinkling village after dinner is almost an activity in itself. Plus, in the morning you can click into your skis after grabbing a coffee and ski through the village on the way to the lifts—which is an unbelievably great way to start your day.”

Lift Lines Don’t Exist Here

The true beauty of Sun Peaks is the combination of its size (huge), variety of terrain (massive), and average skier visits (low). With green, blue, and black runs stemming from the tops of all three peaks (Mount Tod, Mount Morrisey, and Sundance), the resort makes it easy for families, and the even distribution of skiers means there are rarely if ever lift lines. Even better, the new-for-this-winter Orient Chairlift, located opposite the Morrisey Chairlift, accesses two new runs and allows guests in the East Village to gain access to Mount Tod, Sundance, and the Main Village much more easily. Pro tip: Venture into Gil’s—off the back side of Mount Tod—if you’re looking for the deepest and steepest lines on the mountain.

There’s Something for Everyone

Do you prefer to set your edge deep in some fresh corduroy and lay down crispy turns or send side hits in a gladed oasis? Sun Peaks has got you covered. With significant offseason improvements to the glades around the classic runs “Blazer” and “Bluff,” there are new lines and secret powder stashes to explore. Or maybe you’d prefer to pop in the earbuds and cruise a few park laps in the 10-acre top-to-bottom Rockstar Energy terrain park. With 45 unique features, including a 50-foot mega-booter, located right beside the Sundance Express lift (aptly named “Showcase”), it has options for the rail destroyers and senders alike.

Don’t Downhill Ski? Don’t Sweat It
