BE DEDICATED: 鈥淲hen it鈥檚 climbing season, most weekends I go up to New Paltz or Brewster, in Westchester,鈥 Sacaridiz says. 鈥淚鈥檒l leave the city at 8 a.m. and be back by 9 p.m. I practice at , a great gym in Gowanus. I take a few four- or five-day trips, too鈥擜labama, North Carolina, Texas鈥攖hen snowboard twice a month in winter.鈥
STAY ORGANIZED: 鈥淚 have a storage unit that houses all my gear a few blocks from my apartment. It鈥檚 my second bedroom.鈥
CHOOSE GOOD FRIENDS: 鈥淚 don鈥檛 have a car, so I freeload,鈥 says Sacaridiz. 鈥淓very weekend in spring and fall, I鈥檒l find out on Facebook who鈥檚 going climbing and hitch a ride. I have a friend with a house in Mount Snow, Vermont, so I鈥檒l stay with him when I go snowboarding.鈥
AND PARTNERS: Sacaridiz鈥檚 wife, Leah, is also a climber and snowboarder. 鈥淚t helps that she鈥檚 psyched to get out,鈥 he says. 鈥淥ur vacations tend to involve exploring.鈥
GO LONG: Sacaridiz and his wife have traveled to Iceland twice in the past three years鈥攁 smart pick, since it鈥檚 just a six-hour flight from New York City and offers big discounts. 鈥淲e figure out which towns we鈥檙e going to each night, but we don鈥檛 know what we鈥檒l do once we get there,鈥 he says.
