Christmas ski trips in Colorado
Question: My parents are coming from Indonesia this December for my brother’s and my graduation day. As they’re foreign to this country, I’d like to plan a winter vacation for us in which we can enjoy the traditional winter activities and festivities of America.

We’d like to taste bits of winter parades, skiing, snowboarding, sleigh-riding, and so forth, with local cuisines, cozy places, and great views 鈥 maybe some art performances.

The vacation should be within the time range of December 20 to January 3. I was thinking of the New England area because I think there may be plenty of places for sightseeing besides the traditional winter activities, but I’m open to suggestions.

I was thinking of taking the train from Oklahoma so we can enjoy the winter views during the journey, but I’m not sure if there will be enough time. Is there a special place where we can rent the necessary gear and clothing for skiing?

Christmas in the Rockies provides a proper taste of American traditions

国产吃瓜黑料 Adviser: Felicia, although New England would be a wonderful place to celebrate Christmas with your family, I’d go to Colorado instead. First, the snow in New England is not always reliable during Christmas, and second, New England is a long, long way from Oklahoma.

My suggestion is to take the 12-hour drive west to Colorado. Here you’ll find more than 25 ski resorts to choose from, all of which provide larger-than-life vistas of the Rocky Mountains and the twinkling lights of Christmas on every single street corner.

The only problem is that a ski trip to Colorado (or New England) between December 20 and January 3 will not be cheap 鈥 this is primetime Christmas vacation; the crowds will be fierce and lift tickets will cost upwards of $50 per person.

Although you’ll be able to rent skis at any ski shop on or near the mountain for approximately $20 per day per person, it may be difficult to find rental clothing. It may also be difficult to find a hotel as many book a year in advance for the Christmas season.

I suggest you head up to Summit County, one hour north of Denver on I-70. Between Copper Mountain, Arapahoe Basin, and Breckenridge Resort, you’ll find terrain for everyone. Plus, the quaint Victorian town of Breckenridge, with it’s colorful buildings and cozy restaurants, is the perfect place to ring in the New Year. Call Breckenridge Ski Resort (800-800-2732) or Copper
Mountain Resort (800-458-8386) for information on everything from hotels to skiing to Christmastime activities.
