Australian cyclist Rohan Dennis broke the record for farthest distance traveled in one hour on Sunday, covering 32.62 miles at the Velodrome Suisse in Grenchen, Switzerland, .
The 24-year-old cyclist from Adelaide, Australia, is the third athlete to set a new one-hour record in the past six months. As 国产吃瓜黑料 wrote last June, a wave of competitive cyclists has shown interest in the one-hour record following a change in UCI regulations that, until last year, prohibited the use of shaped tubes, drop handlebars, or other nontraditional modifications of track bikes that make for faster, more aerodynamic riding.
In September, German cyclist Jens Voigt set a new one-hour record, also at the at the Velodrome Suisse in Grenchen, with a distance of 31.76 miles, . Voigt鈥檚 attempt was followed in October by Matthias Br盲ndle, who rode a distance of 32.22 miles at the World Cycling Center in Aigle, Switzerland, .
Dennis said his achievement, perhaps his greatest since winning a silver medal in the team pursuit at the 2012 Olympics, left him exhausted and thrilled.
鈥淚 didn鈥檛 have time to enjoy because it was a lot of pain,鈥 he told USA Today. 鈥淚 hope now that the record will stay for a while.鈥
